G’day Divers,

Well after a change of government and a number of weeks in another round of consultations with industry stakeholders, the new liberal Minister for Fisheries Mr Norman Moore has made some wholesale changes to the previous harsh recommendations put forward by Mr John Ford. Most noticeable and most welcome was that of the proposal “6A A daily bag limit of one Category 1 fish will apply to spearfishing on compressed air in the West Coast Bioregion” was scrapped for the interim period until further research and data is available, which puts divers back on par with other recreational fishers which we are considered to be. Other changes included shelving the close seasoned bans, relaxed boat limits and more which can be found on the WA Fisheries website Here. WADivers believes this is much more manageable and more appropriate legislation to keeping the sustainability that we are all wishing to ensure and see in ALL of our fish stocks.

Again we would like to thank the dive business’s that supported us

Proposed ban on CAASF

.Hey All,

I'm sure you've already heard about the Minister for Fisheries latest proposal - to ban Compressed Air Assisted Spear Fishing  (CAASF) - among other things. While WADivers supports changes to fisheries management in order to ensure our fish stocks are available for following generations, we believe that the banning of CAASF is not going to assist in sustainable fisheries

Our proposal, written by Shane Watts (Sharkcaver) can be viewed here
